A Kellyton man was arrested earlier this month on a sexual abuse charge. Information from law enforcement now reveals additional details about the investigation leading to the arrest.
According to Sheriff Michael Howell, the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office initially launched a criminal investigation intoToney Marbury, 60, after the sheriff's office received a report Feb. 22 citingsexual abuse allegations against him.
Following a two-week investigation of allegations, Sheriff Michael Howell said his office arrestedMarbury on March 1.
“We conducted an investigation and were able to gather enough evidence in the case to get an arrest warrant,” Howell said.
According to court records, Marbury is being charged with sexual abuse of a child under 12 years old, which is a Class B felony. If found guilty, it can hold a sentence of 10 to 20 years.
Following his arrest,Marbury was transported toCoosa County Jail andassigned a public defender; his bail was set at $30,000. According to court documents, Marbury was released on bond March 2.
“He made bond and now is awaiting the court process,” Howell said.
Howell said the next step in the case is a preliminary hearing, which is scheduled for next week.
