Our View

The weather is warming up and although there is the potential of storms Saturday, don’t let that stop you from enjoying all our area has to offer.

The Lake Martin area is fortunate to have an abundance of things for its residents to do. Wind Creek State Park is a gem with tons of fun activities. From the archery range to the zipline and the hiking trails and lakeshore beach, there is something for everyone to enjoy. We have to remember how fortunate we are to have the lake in our backyard and enjoy all the local amenities offered.

Today in particular Wind Creek will be the place to be as the 10th annual Horseshoe Bend cheerleaders bass fishing tournament is taking place. Registration begins at 6 a.m. with a big fish pot of $20 per boat. There is a guaranteed payback of $3,000. Don’t let the potential for rain hold you back from enjoying some time behind a fishing pole.

Only a slight chance of rain is in the forecast for Sunday, so it’d be a great time to get out and enjoy spring and the lake.

For those bargain shoppers, there are also several yard sales happening today. Check out Page 5 for more information on those.

At 5 p.m. Sunday there will be a concert at Orr Street Baptist Church featuring The Kempters, which is a multi-talented family of five that brings its own brand of unique gospel music from Slapout. The Kempters play a variety of music from hymns and bluegrass to contemporary, country and classical.

No matter what you decide to attend this weekend, we hope you decide to get out and enjoy some Vitamin D in the Lake Martin area if the rain doesn’t overtake the weekend.
