It’s no secret the rivalry between the University of Alabama and Auburn University is a heated one. Sports fans across the country get excited for the annual Iron Bowl, and even when it’s not on the gridiron, it’s fun to watch Alabama and Auburn compete in all athletics.
That being said, this weekend, we should put that rivalry aside.
Auburn’s men’s basketball team is heading to its first-ever Final Four and will play Virginia at 5:09 p.m. Saturday night. It’s time to put away the red and white jerseys, dust off the old orange and blue and root for Auburn, even if you’re usually screaming “Roll Tide.”
This is a historic game for Auburn and its community. It’s the first time the Tigers have ever gone to the Final Four, and both Auburn and UVA will be competing for their first-ever bid in the national championship. One of these teams will walk away very happy, and everyone in the state should be rooting for Auburn on Saturday.
Sports is one of the few things that can bring us all together. It doesn’t matter your political leanings or your socioeconomic status or the color of your skin. Everyone can root for one common goal this weekend, and that’s for the Tigers to continue this historic run.
It’s not often all eyes are on the state of Alabama, but this is one of those times. Instead of rooting against your rivals because you wish it was the Crimson Tide out there playing on the hardwood, put those differences aside so the whole state can have something to root for.
