Mrs. Irene Tate Gandy
1933 - 2019
Elizabeth Irene Tate Gandy passed on to new life on Monday, May 20, 2019. She is preceded in this passing by her husband Willie Ralph Gandy, her son Austin Marvin Gandy, her daughter-in-law Deborah Dye Gandy, her parents Marvin and Laverne Tate and her parents-in-law Lester and Evie Gandy. She continues to live in her children Bill Gandy, Judy (Carl) Glass, Jimmy Gandy, Joan (Curtiss) White, her brother Alvin (Carol) Tate and her sister-in-law Jan Carder. She is loved by her 19 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces and nephews.
She was a 1951 graduate of Benjamin Russell High School and a 1954 graduate of Caraway Nursing School. She was a registered nurse for 46 years before retiring serving patients at Russell Hospital, Newnan, Ga. Hospital, Randolph County Home Health, Hartselle Hospital, Lawrence County Hospital, Walker Baptist Medical Center and Bradford Drug and Rehabilitation Hospital.
She and Ralph were married in December 1956 and lived together until his death in 2002. They served as pastoral family for United Methodist Churches from 1967 until 1994. She leaves a legacy of servanthood and love lasting for all of her life. She passed on at home with her family caring for her.
A funeral service will be held at First United Methodist Church (Trinity campus) in Alexander City, Alabama on Friday, May 24 at 11:00 am. She will lie in repose at the Church for one hour prior to the service. Visitation with her family will take place at Radney Funeral Home in Alexander City on Thursday evening, May 23 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. Her family requests, in lieu of flowers, that memorial donations be made to Camp Sumatanga (a United Methodist camp), 3616 Sumatanga Road, Gallant, Alabama 35972.
