Mr. Robert I.J. “Pap” Mobley
1927 - 2020
Funeral Service for Mr. Robert I.J. “Pap” Mobley, 92, of Alexander City, Alabama, will be Tuesday, March 3, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Alex City Church of Christ. Minister Chris Tidwell, Andy Graham and Minister James Cullins will officiate. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park with honors provided by the Alexander City Veteran’s Honor Guard. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 2, 2020 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Mobley passed away on Saturday, February 29, 2020 at Russell Medical Center. He was born on April 10, 1927 in Marion County, Alabama to James Robert Mobley and Lou Etta Self Mobley. He served two years in the United States Navy during World War II, enlisting at the age of 17. He was a member of Alex City Church of Christ. I.J. was a beloved figure in the Alexander City area, working at Russell Corporation, serving three terms on the City council, coaching and umpiring baseball and softball, substitute teaching, driving a school bus and delivering mail.
He is survived by his daughter, Hilda (David) Walker of Alexander City; sons, David (Jackie) Mobley of Alexander City and Darrell (Gaye) Mobley of Alexander City; wife of 16 years, Carolyn P. Mobley; grandchildren, Lisa Pemberton, Lynne (Jason) Gamble, Jackson Mobley, Camille (Connor) Davidson, Bradleigh Mobley, Ryder Mobley and Breck Mobley; great-grandchildren, Hagan (Leah) Pemberton, Chandler Pemberton, Davis Pemberton, Kennedy Pemberton, Walker Pemberton, Thompson Gamble, Holland Gamble and Harris Gamble; great-great-grandchildren, Hayes Pemberton and Sadie Pemberton; sister, Eleanor Stagner; stepson, Jim (Susan) Glass; stepdaughter, Jae (Collier) Hunt and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; first wife of 56 years, Willie Mae Clark Mobley; siblings, Arvin Mobley, Quilly "Doc" Mobley, Velma Nichols, Ethel Knight, Jewel Scott, Cleo Barnes and Brady Mobley.
