Mr. James Adrian “Shorty” Thornton

Funeral Service for Mr. James Adrian “Shorty” Thornton, 83, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, May 18, 2019 at 2:00 pm at the Sixth Street Baptist Church. Dr. Matt Haynes and Dr. Gerald Hallmark will officiate. Mr. Thornton will lie in state for one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will follow in the Hillview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 17, 2019 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Radney Funeral Home.
Mr. Thornton passed away on Thursday, May 16, 2019 at Chapman Healthcare Center. He was born on September 28, 1935 in Sylacauga, Alabama to Louis Adrian Thornton and Eva Mae Dunning Webb. He was a longtime and active member of Sixth Street Baptist Church, where he served on several committees including, Baptism Committee and Usher/Greeter Committee. He spent 48 years of his life working for Russell Corporation at the #6 Mill and everyone there became his family. Mr. Shorty had a servant’s heart and was always doing for others. Every day he would go to Chapman Healthcare to make and serve coffee and other items to the residents. He enjoyed doing his own yard work because no one else could do it like he did it. Mr. Shorty was a loving and giving husband, daddy and paw paw and will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his loving and spoiled wife of 62 years, Edna Earl Sorrell Thornton of Alexander City; daughter, Debra Perry (Lamar) of Alexander City; granddaughters, Adraine Gregg (Chris) of Alexander City and Chasity Harston (Josh) of Kentucky; great-grandchildren, Danlee Claire Simpson, Kandalyn Gregg, Zoey Harston, Noah Harston, Annalise Gregg and Cayson James Gregg; sister, Pat Fuller Milam (Gary) of Alexander City; and his precious fur baby, BoBo.
He was preceded in death by his father, Louis Adrian Thornton; mother, Eva Mae Webb; stepfather, Harlum Webb; and brother, Bobby K. Thornton.
Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be given to the Building Fund at Sixth Street Baptist Church, 2324 6th Street Extension, Alexander City, AL 35010.
