Town Creek tornado confirmed by NWS

The National Weather Service said an EF1 tornado struck Tallapoosa County in the Town Creek area.

The NWS said peak winds hit 90 mph and the tornado was determined by the number of trees downed in the path stretching 2.1 miles long and 300 yards at its widest point. The system had broad rotation with little updraft causing no debris signature.

“I’m grateful there were no injuries and no major structural damage even though there were several hundred trees blown down or snapped off,” Tallapoosa County EMA director Jason Moran said.
