Alexander City gets an encore.

The Lake Martin Young Professionals have organized a Strand Session Encore – this time featuring the music by soul singer Jojo Hammett and teen singing sensation Katlin Hill. The music is set to begin tonight at 6:30 and run until 8:30 p.m in Strand Park.

The community has been accepting of regular music in the park.

“Everything we’ve heard has been extremely positive,” John Howell told the Alexander City City Council recently. “Everyone has been very responsible. I think the people have been pleased with the time limit so there were no problems with noise after hours. Plus, they have all been pretty well attended.”

In addition to the music, the Young Professionals have organized a Poker Walk before the ‘Session’ to benefit the Lake Martin Area United Way.

“I am pleased that Young Professionals are stepping up to the plate again to help the community,” United Way’s Scott Hardy said. “They are proving to be a vital group in the area.”

The Poker Walk starts at the United Way office on Main Street with stops at Alabama Street Makers Market, Cloud Nine, Coffee Corner, Jake’s on Broad, J.R’s and Little Black Dress. Cost is $15 a hand and the best hand wins $200. There is also a prize for the worst hand.

Strand Sessions began in May and were held on the first Thursday in June, July and August as well. The crowds have ranged between 300 and 500 people and acts including Rexton Lee, The Bank Walkers, Dallas Dorsey and B. Snipes have taken the Strand Park stage this summer.
