The Tallapoosa County Democratic Party is hosting at least two candidates seeking the state party chair Thursday.
Tallapoosa County Democratic Party chair Jeremy Jeffcoat said former lieutenant governor nominee Dr. Will Boyd and former Alabama U.S. House District 2 nominee Tabitha Isner will be visiting the Tallapoosa County Democrats at 6 p.m. Thursday at the Bud Porch Center.
“We are hoping the other two can make it too,” Jeffcoat said. “Alabama state Sen. Vivian Davis Figures is in session in Montgomery and is trying as is incumbent chairwoman Nancy Worley. Worley was in town earlier this month but is trying to set a schedule to get here.”
Jeffcoat said this is good news for area Democrats.
“Obviously, we’re excited to have the candidates here to speak to our group and while we have not confirmed all of them, we are hopeful that all four can attend,” Jeffcoat said. “Each of them brings a unique background, perspective and set of skills to the position, and they are all committed to building a stronger party.”
Jeffcoat hopes the visit from those seeking the state chair of the Democratic Party will ignite area voters to be advocates for all in the community.
“As Democrats, we believe in the equality of all people, the power of education, the dignity of work and our shared commitment to each other,” Jeffcoat said. “Under single-party rule, our state has reached rock bottom in education, poverty rates, protection of children, public health and quality of life. We believe we can do better and we’re excited to hear from these candidates their plans to move our party and the state of Alabama forward.”
