Confirmed cases of the coronavirus continue to climb throughout the state as Alabama saw a 300-plus increase in the cumulative number of COVID-19 over the last 24 hours, according to the Alabama Department of Public Health.

As of 12:15 p.m. Thursday, ADPH is reporting 13,058 confirmed cases of the novel coronavirus in the state which is an increase of 359 cases in the last 24 hours.

In the last 14 days, there have been 4,083 cases confirmed with 67,004 tests given.

In the last 24 hours, Tallapoosa County added six confirmed cases of COVID-19, now at 379. The county’s death count has increased by two, now at 59 total deaths from the coronavirus.

Coosa County's confirmed case count is at 33 with one death while Elmore County added seven cases to now be at 226 confirmed cases. Elmore County has seven COVID-19 deaths.

Statewide, there have been 528 COVID-19 deaths. ADPH reports only confirmed COVID-19 deaths. The criteria for death counts now include people who died with a positive COVID-19 laboratory test as well as individuals whose death certificates list COVID-19 as the cause of death.

Statewide, the ADPH is reporting 170,739 total tested. In Tallapoosa County, there have been 2,408 tests counted by ADPH, 234 in Coosa County and 2,367 in Elmore County.

There have been 1,528 hospitalizations across the state since March 13, according to ADPH. This is a decrease of 226 hospitlizations that were reported on ADPH's dashboard Wednesday.

ADPH spokesperson Arrol Sheehan provided this statement from ADPH's Dr. Karen Landers earlier this week:

"The Alabama Department of Public Health (ADPH) dashboard updates on a regular basis. ADPH receives reports from multiple laboratories through multiple methods ... This is an ongoing process to refine data and ensure accuracy ... Please note that all data is provisional and subject to change."

Gov. Kay Ivey is set to hold a joint press conference with state health officer Dr. Scott Harris today at 2 p.m. to provide an update on the COVID-19 situation in the state.

Since March 13, there have been 526 patients in intensive care units and 311 on a ventilator. In the medical field, 1,788 healthcare workers in hospitals and doctors' offices have tested positive. When it comes to long-term care facilities, 823 employees and 1,269 residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
