Robert Milton Cozad, 43, of Kellyton was arrested by the Dadeville Police Department Oct. 23 on a grand jury indictment of two counts of sexual abuse of a child under the age of 12.

The Alexander City Police Department took a report of allegations of touching a child in February 2018 from the Alabama Department of Human Resources (DHR). Police chief Jay Turner said in cases where the victim is young, DHR and the Tri-County Child Advocacy Center take the lead on the investigation.

“It was reported that (Cozad) touched a young girl known to him inappropriately several years ago,” Turner said.

Court records show Cozad was indicted in August 2018 on the charges but wasn’t arrested until October. Cozad is currently being held in the Tallapoosa County Jail on $26,500 bail. Court records do not indicate he has an attorney yet. He has pleaded guilty to two counts of public intoxication in 2006 and 2010. Cozad is due in court in March in front of Fifth Judicial Circuit Court Judge Isaac Whorton for arraignment.
