Detectives with the Alexander City Police Department made a quick arrest following a Wednesday afternoon shooting.
Alexander City Police Department deputy chief James Easterwood said investigators quickly developed a suspect after one person was shot in the are of Hillabee and Coley streets and made the arrest within seven hours.
“Detectives got there right away,” Easterwood said. “The were able to develop a suspect who was from Opelika. They contacted the (Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force) who contacted the U.S. Marshal’s Service and they went to Opelika to make the arrest.”
Easterwood said the shooting occurred about 4:40 p.m. Wednesday.
“Two subjects got into an altercation at a residence in the Hillabee and Coley streets area,” Easterwood said. “The offender pulled a gun and shot the victim as he ran away.”
Easterwood said the 21-year-old victim was transported to Russell Medical with non-life threatening injuries.
Easterwood said two arrests were made in the incident.
Khalif Da-Quan Kellum, 20, of Opelika was arrested and charged with first-degree assault and Keedon Tyrell Young, 18, of Alexander City was arrested for hindering prosecution. Kellum posted a $100,000 bond and was released from the Tallapoosa County Jail. Young posted a $15,000 and was also released from the Tallapoosa County Jail.
