Trees and brush around Alexander City’s new municipal complex have been cleared and hauled away in recent weeks and work will continue for several more weeks, according to public works department director Gerard Brewer.
"It’s really starting to take shape," Brewer said Wednesday while taking a break from mower duties at the site of the former Russell Corp. Sales Office. "We’re beginning to see what it will look like when it’s all done."
New landscaping will be installed during the renovation process. Construction to renovate the building is scheduled to begin in August and the city has been told it should be able to occupy the building in March 2020, according to project architect JMR+H.
All city departments will be consolidated in the 85,000-square foot building.
