Investigators with the Alexander City Police Department are looking to several unlawful breaking and entering of vehicles reported in the last week.

Alabama Law Enforcement Agency State Troopers are investigating an accident Wednesday between an Alexander City Police Department cruiser and a privately operated vehicle, police chief Jay Turner said.

“Our vehicle had some damage to the right rear quarter panel,” Turner said.

Although the accident was minor, Turner said one person was transported to Russell Medical.

“Our officer was transported to be checked out and have a blood test,” Turner said. “It is a matter of procedure since it involved an officer on duty. The officer is fine.”

The accident happened early Wednesday morning at the intersection of Lee and Elkahatchee streets.

Turner said state troopers are investigating the accident since it involved an ACPD officer.

Turner said ACPD investigators are also looking into more unlawful breaking and entering of vehicles.

“It has been about two a night for the last few nights,” Turner said. “They are scattered about town. Mostly they have been where people left their vehicles unlocked.”

Turner said the easiest way to prevent the breaking and enterings is to remove all valuables from vehicles and lock the doors.
