Alabama has seen one of its largest one-day increases since the first case of COVID-19 was reported in the state. As of 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, the Alabama Department of Public Health was reporting 8,532 confirmed cases — an increase of 326 in the last 24 hours.

All three local counties have also seen an increase since Tuesday’s report. Tallapoosa County now has 304 confirmed cases of the coronavirus, an increase of five in the last 24 hours. The number of COVID-19 related deaths has also increased by one and now sits at 23.

Elmore County had an increase of seven cases in the last 24 hours and now has 120 confirmed cases. It also has three COVID-19 related deaths. Coosa County now has 31 cases — an increase of one — and one related death.

As of 12:20 p.m. Wednesday, Tallapoosa County still had the fourth highest rate per capita in the state at 753.1 per 100,000 persons, which is a slight increase from Tuesday. Chambers is still ranked No. 1 at 914.2 per 100,000 persons.

This per capita rate allows a county-by-county comparison as if each population was the same. Coosa County's confirmed case rate per 100,000 is still 290.7 while Elmore County's is now 147.8 per 100,000 persons. Both are an increase from Tuesday’s report.

Statewide, there have been 340 COVID-19 deaths, an increase of 30 deaths in the last 24 hours.

ADPH reports only confirmed COVID-19 deaths. The criteria for death counts now include people who died with a positive COVID-19 laboratory test as well as individuals whose death certificates list, as the cause of death, COVID-19 or an equivalent.

Statewide, the ADPH is reporting 109,516 total tested. ADPH's website states the total tested number for the state also includes test results from persons who were tested in Alabama but do not reside in Alabama.

In Tallapoosa County, there have been 1,568 tests counted by ADPH, 176 in Coosa County and 1,444 in Elmore County.

There have been 1,145 hospitalizations across the state since March 13, according to ADPH.

Since March 13, there have been 439 patients in intensive care units and 263 on a ventilator. In the medical field, 1,238 healthcare workers in hospitals and doctor's offices have tested positive. When it comes to long-term care facilities, 558 employees and 858 residents have tested positive for COVID-19.
