Back by popular demand – Strand Sessions.
The Alexander City City Council approved an extension of the use of Strand Park by the Lake Martin Young Professionals to hold a September version of the monthly concerts in the park series that proved to be popular throughout the summer.
John Howell of the Young Professionals made the request at Tuesday’s special called meeting by the council.
“We have had additional requests by the community to hold one more concert,” Howell told the council. “Through some of our contacts we found another entertainer that was willing to play and if we could get permission to use Strand Park, we would love to do it again in September.”
The council gave the extension a thumbs up by a vote of 5-0.
The concert will be held on Sept. 8 and feature music by soul singer Jojo Hammett and teen singing sensation Katlin Hill. The music is set to begin at 6:30 and run until 8:30 p.m.
Councilman Billy Ray Wall said all indications were that the concerts have been very successful and no major problems were reported. Howell said the Young Professionals have gotten nothing but positive feedback.
“Everything we’ve heard has been extremely positive,” Howell told the council. “Everyone has been very responsible. I think the people have been pleased with the time limit so there were no problems with noise after hours. Plus, they have all been pretty well attended.”
Strand Sessions began in May and were held on the first Thursday in June, July and August as well. The crowds have ranged between 300 and 500 people and acts including Rexton Lee, The Bank Walkers, Dallas Dorsey and B. Snipes have taken the Strand Park stage this summer.
