The third annual Blues in the Park will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday at Strand Park in downtown Alexander City.
The free concert will feature artists West Love, Stan Butler and LJ Echols. Blues in the Park committee member Tyrone Oliver said Echols will headline the event and Butler has played in Strand Park before.
“We are looking to create an event that at least if nothing else emulates Jazz Fest,” Oliver said. “They’ve got 30 years almost and that is a great event.”
The event is a cultural offering to the community, according to Oliver.
“Music is universal,” Oliver said. “Everybody loves music … Children played ball in Strand Park. It’s enjoyed universally.”
Oliver said the event will be held rain or shine and security provided by the Alexander City Police Department.
Oliver said the committee hopes for a strong turnout and wants fans to have a good time.
“I’m looking for people to come out and have a good time, appreciate the music and have a chance to mingle with other people they haven’t seen for a while, have a good time and enjoy the community,” Oliver said.
