One round to go: The 10-and-under Alexander City All-Star team will play in the state tournament at Gadsden City High School this weekend.

The 10U Alexander City All-Star basketball team will play will play for the state championship this weekend in Gadsden after winning the district tournament in Lincoln.
Alexander City won three games in one day, including an overtime thriller over Opelika. The Wildcats took a 35-30 lead into the fourth quarter and led by three with time running out, but Opelika fired up a 3-pointer that went in to send the game into overtime.
However, the Wildcats outscored the Bulldogs 8-5 in the extra period for a 50-47 victory. Car’driques Baggage led the way with 17 poitns and Shannon Woody poured in 14.
Alexander City used a balanced scoring attack to defeat Valley 41-30 in the opening game of the tournament. Woody and Jevon McKinney tallied eight points each, while Latravious Kelley added seven. Seven players got their names in the score book.
CaBrunski Leonard paced Alexander City with 14 points in the team’s second win of the day, a 43-38 triumph over Sylacauga. Woody made all of his free throws and had 11 in that contest.
The team played unselfishly all day and got contributions from every player.
Alexander City will play a team from Mobile on Saturday at Gadsden City High School in the first round of the state tournament. The squad will have to win four games over the course of two days to take the crown.
