CACC softball at 15-6

Danielle Backer, Hagen Vickers, Michelle Gray and Bailey Braughton all picked up two hits in the Central Alabama softball team’s 8-7 win over NW Fla. St. on Saturday. Vickers and Gray also had two runs batted in.

Haley Johnson allowed five earned runs and six hits in seven innings to get the win. Katie Matchen had a double and RBI.

NWFSC scored four times in the seventh inning and won 7-5 in eight innings in the second game.

Braughton and Johnson both had two hits. Johnson, who drove in two runs, took the loss after surrendering two runs in the eighth.

Samantha Hamby pitched 6.1 innings, giving up five runs (one earned) and striking out five.

Brooklynn Phillips finished with a hit and two RBIs for the Lady Trojans (15-6).

CACC splits

The Lady Trojans are coming off of a 10-1 win over Roane and a 3-2 victory over Columbia State on Feb. 27.

Bailey Braughton had three hits in the first win, and Cassidy Moses and Samantha Hamby combined to allow just one hit in the circle. Haley Johnson and Jade Sasser both had two hits and two RBIs. Katie Matchen also drove in two runs.

Against Columbia State, Braughton had another strong showing, driving in two runs and slapping two more base hits. Danielle Backer, Michelle Gray, Vannessa Peterson and Sasser all had hits. Hamby pitched a complete game, striking out eight and allowing just three hits.
