Published Tuesday, March 2, 2010
A 23-year-old Rockford man is in jail after a 27-year-old Kellyton man was injured in a drive-by shooting on U.S. 280 late Monday night.
Justin Herron of County Road 93 in Rockford was arrested at 2:55 a.m. Tuesday and charged with attempted murder, according to Lt. Randy Walters, public information officer for the Alexander City Police Department.
Walters said the victim, who was identified as a black male, was traveling eastbound on U.S. 280 in a Honda Accord between 11 and 11:20 p.m. Monday when a Plymouth Sundance pulled up beside it at the Airport Drive traffic light.
Walters said shots were fired and the victim was hit once in each arm.
“The victim then took himself to the hospital (Russell Medical Center),” Walters said.
“The injuries were non-life-threatening.”
There was another person in the victim’s vehicle, but Walters said that person was not injured. Walters also declined to say if the suspect and victim knew each other.
The suspect remains in the Alexander City Jail, where he is awaiting arraignment. Walter said the suspect will likely be turned over to Tallapoosa County after a bond has been set.
