Rebels blast Goshen to remain undefeated in region play
Published Saturday, September 19, 2009
The No. 4 Reeltown Rebels had no trouble with the Goshen Eagles, shutting out one of their toughest region opponents 34-0 in Nix-Webster Stadium.
Willie McKenzie scored three touchdowns, Ki-Shawn Powell scored two more and the Rebel defense put the clamps on Goshen’s highly touted rushing attack, holding the Eagles to -57 yards on 25 carries.
Reeltown is now 3-1 on the season and 3-0 in the region. Goshen fell to 2-2 and 2-1 in region play.
McKenzie, who now has five rushing touchdowns this season, scored his first of Friday in the first quarter on a 7-yard run. Powell had an 8-yard run for six later in the quarter, and the Rebels led 12-0 after one.
In the second, McKenzie glided into the end zone from 5 yards away to pad the lead. The Rebels blocked a punt late in the half, and quarterback Milton Chambliss hit McKenzie right before the break on a beautiful, diving 30-yard touchdown to make it 26-0 at intermission.
Chambliss was 3-for-4 on the night for 54 yards and the touchdown to McKenzie. Goshen was 6-for-17 for 98 yards through the air.
In the third quarter, Reeltown ran 20 plays to Goshen’s three, but the Rebels didn’t score again until Powell’s final touchdown in the fourth quarter. Powell had 101 yards on 13 carries.
Tywone Stewart was next for Reeltown, gaining 72 yards. McKenzie had 29 yards on just six carries. Frank Kitt had 51 yards rushing and Trey McKeithen added 37.
The Rebels step out of region play next week for a tough rivalry game at Loachapoka.
