Troopers: alcohol may be factor in wreck

Published Thursday, September 3, 2009

Alcohol could have been involved in a two-vehicle wreck Monday that resulted in injuries to both drivers and four passengers, according to Alabama State Trooper Sgt. Robert Watson.

“We do suspect that alcohol was a factor in the accident,” Watson said. “We are continuing to investigate.”

The wreck occurred four miles west of Alexander City on U.S. 280 when a 2010 Dodge Charger driven by Jonathan Christopher Jones, 24, of Birmingham collided with a 1996 Chevrolet truck driven by 57-year-old Arthur Boyce of Goodwater.

A crash report released by the Troopers Tuesday stated that both drivers were transported from the scene to Russell Medical Center.

Attempts to reach RMC Wednesday for patient conditions were unsuccessful.

Watson said the accident occurred when one vehicle failed to yield while attempting a left turn. It then collided with the second vehicle.

The crash resulted in one subject being thrown from the Charger. Passengers Shanquilla Thomas, 21, of Alexander City; Oberion Thomas, 19, of Alexander City; Timothy Edwards, 22, of Birmingham; and Jermaine Tolbert, 20, were all transported to RMC for treatment. All four passengers were in the Charger at the time of the wreck.
