City arts brings Mark Twain at Large
Published Friday, October 16, 2009
The next performance in the Alexander City Arts, Inc. series will give theatergoers a chance to see a famous literary figure up close, well, sort of.
Mark Twain at Large, Ron Jewell’s one-man show, features the actor in character as Samuel Clemmons telling stories and anecdotes from his Connecticut home.
“It’s a situation where he is sitting in his easy chair,” said Beverly Thomas, Alexander City Arts, Inc president. “We are invited in to his study for a conversation and we become his captive audience on a blustery evening. He tells stories from the pages of his novels.”
The performance will take place Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at the Benjamin Russell High School auditorium.
Jewell will also perform for students at Radney School at 9 a.m Thursday as well and Thomas said the event would be good for all students.
“We would like to target middle school and high school English teachers to encourage their students to come to the evening performance.
“We are hoping for a good student turnout for the evening performance,” Thomas said. “I think the students will enjoy it.”
Tickets for the evening performance are $10 at the door for adults, but students will be able to get in for free.
