Coosa man killed in wreck

A Coosa County man was fatally injured Friday night on Alabama 22 one mile west of Rockford.

Anthony Todd Smith, age 34, of Rockford was killed as a result of the one vehicle wreck that occurred at approximately 5:58 p.m. Friday, according to a press release from the Alabama State Troopers.

The subject was traveling in a 1997 Chevrolet C1500 pickup truck at the time of the wreck. The release stated that the airbags in the truck deployed and Smith was not wearing a seatbelt, according to the release.

Additional information on the fatality was unavailable Monday due to the Columbus Day holiday. State troopers continue to investigate the wreck.

Funeral services for Smith were held Monday, Oct. 12 at 2 p.m. at the chapel of Radney Funeral Home. Burial service was held in the Swamp Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery.

Smith was a graduate of Southern Union State Community College with an auto mechanic degree, according to his obituary. Smith is survived by his wife, Sarah Guthrey Smith and son Christopher Dale Smith. He is also survived by his parents, Waylon and Martha Smith of Alexander City.
