Christmas Cash coming soon
Published Wednesday, November 4, 2009
It is an honor for Alexander City to have one of its local businesses recognized as an Alabama Retailer of the Year. Brian Bice, President of Bice Motors, Inc., was presented the Bronze Award in the “Annual Sales More than $5 Million” category by the Alabama Retail Association and the University of Alabama-Birmingham School of Business. Brian joined only eight other retailers in three separate sales categories across Alabama receiving this prestigious award. Alabama Retail Association President Rick Brown is quoted as saying “Brian Bice is a retailer of the year every year to his employees and the Alexander City area.” Congratulations Brian!
The Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a Christmas Cash Bash to encourage shopping at home for the holiday season. The Chamber will be giving away $500 in Chamber Christmas Cash to one lucky winner each week for 5 weeks beginning Monday, Nov. 16, for a total of $2,500. The plan is simple, for every $10 spent in a participating business’ store one ticket (up to 25 tickets per purchase) will be received for entry into weekly drawings. The drawings will be held at the Chamber office each Monday morning and the winner has until that Friday to claim his prize. Watch the Weekend Edition of The Alexander City Outlook each week, Nov. 7 – Dec. 12, for a list of participating businesses. Visit www.alexandercity.org for complete contest rules.
The month of November begins the Holiday season. As we enter into the month, the Chamber of Commerce is preparing for several special events. As you make your plans, be sure to include Holiday Open House on Sunday, Nov. 15. This is a time honored occasion at which time many of the local shops and businesses open their doors for a festive afternoon of shopping and gathering ideas for those special Christmas gifts. More details on the businesses participating will be forthcoming. For now, put the date on your calendar.
For a brief break from holiday planning, the Chamber’s final Quarterly Luncheon is scheduled for Tuesday, Nov. 17, in the Fellowship Hall of First Baptist Church. Mr. Chuck Spurlock, state director for U. S. Sen. Jeff Sessions, and Mr. Brad Wilson, state representative for U. S. Sen. Richard Shelby, will be with us to discuss the current state of affairs of the United States Senate and what is on the horizon for 2010. Chuck has been Sen. Sessions’ state director since 1996, and is responsible for supervising the Senator’s four state offices, as well as representing Sen. Sessions at many in-state events and preparing all of the Senator’s in-state travel. Brad began work for Sen. Shelby in 2004, and has since worked on legislative, constituent services and political issues.
November will pass quickly into December when the Chamber presents its annual Hometown Christmas Parade on Monday, Dec. 7, beginning at 6 p.m. The theme for the 2009 parade is “It’s a Magical, Musical Christmas.” Let your imagination guide you as you prepare your Christmas float for the parade. Entry forms may be obtained from the Chamber office at 120 Tallapoosa Street or call us at 234-3461. The registration fee is $30 per entry and the deadline is Nov. 30.
I, along with Kim and Joanne, wish you a Happy and Blessed Thanksgiving. We do have so much for which to be thankful.
As always, if I, or any member of the Chamber staff can be of service to you, do not hesitate to contact us.
Marvin Wagoner is the President and CEO of the Alexander City Chamber of Commerce and may be reached at 234-3461 or mwagoner@charterinternet.com.
