Published Saturday, June 27, 2009

Alexander City Police investigate the aftermath of a wreck involving a Nissan Frontier and a Norfolk-Southern train Friday evening. Authorities at the scene said the driver and lone occupant of the truck was transported to Russell Medical Center, but did not sustain serious injuries. The fender on the front driver’s side of the truck was damaged in the collision, which occurred at a railroad crossing at the intersection of Calhoun and Jefferson Streets downtown around 4:30 p.m. Friday. The train blocked crossings in downtown until 7 p.m. Friday as emergency responders cleaned up the wreck. The cause of the crash was unknown as of press time.
