Crack, cash seized in bust

Alexander City woman faces charges of trafficking, possession of drugs

Published Thursday, June 25, 2009

Tallapoosa County law enforcement officials seized drugs and more than $40,000 Tuesday from the home of an Alexander City man who was recently placed on probation after pleading guilty to drug charges earlier this month.

The probationer and suspect, Brandon Lewis, 22, of 2323 County Road, and his brother, 22-year-old Renardo Lewis fled their residence when a probation officer from the Tallapoosa County Sheriff’s Office arrived for a routine visit. Both are being sought by authorities and have warrants issued for their arrests, Jay Turner, with the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force said,

Their mother who was also at the residence at the time of the incident but did not flee was arrested in connection with the incident.

Geraldine Lewis, 41, was charged with trafficking cocaine, possession of marijuana in the first degree, possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.

After obtaining a search warrant for the residence, agents with the Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force found:

n $43,370 cash

• 95 grams of crack cocaine valued at $9,500

• 16 grams of marijuana valued at $96

• Lorcet tablets

• Powder cocaine

• Six firearms

• A 2005 Chrysler 300

• A 2001Chevrolet Suburban.

The Alexander City Crime Interdiction Task Force assisted in the investigation.

“The recovery of the drugs to the point where they can’t be sold is significant anytime,” Turner said. “The recovery and the possible seizure of the money is significant because it keeps them from being able to resell the drugs. The firearm seizures are always significant because it takes the weapons off the street. It stops the cycle.”

Authorities said Brandon Lewis has been involved in several illegal incidents over the past two years. In addition to charges stemming from the Tuesday night event and those he is currently on probation for, Brandon Lewis is also facing warrants for drug distribution in Alexander City.

Two other suspects were arrested at the residence. One was arrested for a probation violation and the other was arrested for disorderly conduct.
