Goldhagen to speak at monthly luncheon on Thursday

Published Wednesday, June 24, 2009

Monday the 9 a.m. aquatic class met and had 15 in attendance. Jimmy Thomas finally came to class after our two-week start of the season. Sara Jacobs, Ann Mitchell and Gale Mayfield worked out extra hard with the water hand-weights. It was prize drawing day for the noon aquatic class members. After a robust arm workout, it is nice to have a little surprise coming your way and our lucky winners for the day were; Joyce Graham, Sandee Abrams, Betty French, Dannie Dean Jones and Elinor Roberts. The bowling group met at Idle Time. We hope the bowlers are enjoying their summer league session.

Tuesday bright and early the Rook players started arriving at the activity center around 7:30 a.m. The group had three tables of games going by 9 a.m. The 9 a.m. aquatic class members for the day were: Undrea Coley, Bill Thomas, Lucille Thompson, June Wilson, Claude S., Ann Mitchell, Dot Hill, Helen Nelson, Martha Cox, Virginia Jackson, Ann Slay, Sara Jacobs, Margaret Cleveland, Mary Farmale, Gale Mayfield, Mary Lou Pike, Leola Duck, Barbara Muezmay, Jessie Huntley, Robbie McSweeney, Lottie Wyckoff and Katy Brown. The class routine was a heart health workout and everyone has been working extra hard to get their heart rates up and keep it at a steady pace. The noon class members for the day were; Andy and Virginia Cummings, Linda Daniel, Pauline S., Huey Wayrynen, Genell Jackson, Linda Davidson, Sally Chapman, Janice Pinkard, Mary McDaniel, Joyce Graham, Donna McClellan, Janie Pike, Sandee Abrams, Shirley Rambo, Dannie Dean Jones, Janie Blanks, Lottie Wyckoff, Maree Woodfin, Doug and Betty French, Wade and Ginger Patten, Kathy Brown, Bonny Wilson, Barbara Forbus, Elnora Arnold, Lucy Foy and Pat Box. Needless to say, we had a great crowd. It is wonderful that our pool is adequate in size to hold a class size of 30 or more. An Aquatic class member count has easily reached to about 50 or more. Wow!

Wednesday the Rook group had four tables of games. Tommy Blanks has been joining the group and it has been said that he is a really high-quality player. It was prize drawing day for the 9 a.m. aquatic class members. Winners from the class were; Margaret Cleveland, Dot Hill, June Wilson, Helen Nelson and Virginia Jackson. An interested fact about Virginia Jackson we have learned is that not only is she the young age of 92, but she also has three sons, four grandsons and three great grandsons. Pretty neat! The Mexican train dominoes group met at 9 a.m. in the activity center. There were 14 players in attendance. It was good to see Judy Keel, Emma Wilson and Evelyn Walls among the group. The noon aquatic class had 25 in attendance. The group worked with the water noodles. The group was really challenged by having to move in several different directions while maintaining a firm pace. A few of the Rook players met back up at the activity center after lunch to play. Claude Thomas, Donald Pritchard, Dannie Dean Jones and Everett Wayrynen played a number of games till around 4:30 p.m.

Thursday the Rook players had three tables of games. It was nice to see Burren and Pat McCain in for the game day. The 9 a.m. aquatic class received an extra surprise prize day drawing. Our lucky winners were; Lottie Wayckoff, Gale Mayfield, Joann Shanker and Jessie Huntley. It was also travel drill day for the class. The members really felt like they had received a workout afterwards and there were a few that stay on to relax in the sun a bit. The noon aquatic class also had an extra day for prizes. Mary McDaniel, Gloria Graham, Donna McClellan and Linda Davidson each got a flip-flop keychain. The class had an advanced travel drill routine for the day.

Friday morning the Rook group had 16 players in for around of games. Partnered at one table was; Everett Wayrnen with Jean Myer and Billy Joe Davis with Trudi Ray. The Canasta hand and foot players met at 9 a.m. Players for the day were, Evelyn Wall, Christine Harris, Annette Rice, Leola Duck, Ann Slay and Emma Wilson. Josephine Sarducci was among the players to simply observe and refresh her game skills. The 18 noon free swim participants enjoyed a relaxing time at the pool for an hour. Some did their own exercises and others purely floated about. Anyone 50+ is welcome to join in on the Friday’s free swim noon hour at the outdoor pool.

ACPR members send out condolences to the Moncrief family for their recent loss.

Monthly luncheon is June 25 at the activity center. Bring a side dish and $2 donation. Guest Speaker will be Dr. Paul Goldhagen from Russell Medical Center.

Until next time, keep a smile on your face and love in your heart.

Lucille Thompson and Corley Holt are columnists for The Alexander City Outlook.
