Commission to discuss expansion for auto supplier
Published Tuesday, June 16, 2009
Officials will discuss further details related to the expansion of a Dadeville auto parts supplier Thursday at a special called meeting of the Tallapoosa County Commission.
Officials with KwangSung America will discuss extending the terms of an outstanding bond issue with Commissioners during the meeting at 8:30 a.m. in at the Tallapoosa County Courthouse in Dadeville, according to county administrator Blake Beck.
Beck said the two sides will discuss extending the terms of the bond issue by two years at the meeting and the auto supplier has agreed to take on the additional burden of the agreement in order to meet their needs.
“This is not costing the county anything and we will not be taking on any additional debt,” Beck said. “This will allow them to expand their facilities and meet their needs. We feel this it’s a real win-win situation for us.”
The commission has also called a public hearing to receive feedback about the possibility of a community development block grant from the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs to provide water to Dudleyville and Buttston.
Beck said the $500,000 grant would provide for water infrastructure and the 8 a.m. hearing on Thursday would provide the public with an opportunity to voice opinions before the grant application process would begin.
“These communities have faced some tough issues in the past in regard to water,” Beck said. “Those folks are anxious for any assistance they can get.”
Beck said a final decision by the commission on whether to pursue the grant would come at a meeting later this month.
