Temple breaks ground on new facility

Published Saturday, June 13, 2009

Dr. James Temple has worked in three different offices since he moved to Alexander City in 1960. Now, he’s working on No. 4.

Temple along with his colleagues at Temple Medical Center, Dr. Tim Corbin and Dr. Vince Law, and staff broke ground on Medical Village, which will be the new home for Temple Medical Center, Carlisle Drugs and other businesses.

Temple said he has waited a long time for this day.

“I’ve dreamed about this for a long time, and we’re finally getting to do it now,” Temple said.

The project is being financed through Regions Financial and the architect for the new facility is Brian Lathrop with Architecture for Health in Roswell, Ga. Temple said the center would be built in two stages. The first will be for the new 11,000 square foot clinic itself and the other will be for the shopping center that will include Carlisle.

The development project represents more than 30 jobs for the local economy, Temple said.

Temple Medical Center is a family practice that offers services from pediatric care to some surgery. It has more than 10,000 charts for patients in the Alexander City area.

The doctor’s office has had offices on Church Street, Highway 22 and currently Airport Drive. The new office will also be located on Airport Drive near KFC and Skilstaff.

“I’ve enjoyed working in Alexander City for almost 49 years, and I’m happy that we’re able to do this,” Temple said.

The first phase is expected to be completed by the first quarter of 2010.
