4 arrested during raid of illegal bar
Published Wednesday, July 29, 2009
Several citizen complaints led the Coosa County Sheriff’s office into an investigation, which led to the closure of a “makeshift bar” at a Goodwater residence Sunday, according to Sheriff Terry Wilson.
Dewey Simmons, 50, and his wife Sandra G. Simmons, 56, were charged with possession of alcohol to sell without a license and possession of marijuana in the second degree in connection with the incident.
James Allen Caldwell, 35, was charged with possession of alcohol to sell without a license, sale of alcohol without a license and possession of marijuana in the second degree, according to a statement released by Wilson.
Deputies also discovered a large amount of marijuana in the vehicle of patron Leatris Kentrall Pruitt, 30, which resulted in first-degree marijuana charges against him, according to Wilson.
All four suspects were transported to the Coosa County Jail and released on bonds pending initial court appearances.
Wilson said the department started an investigation in reference to the “makeshift bar” about six months ago after many citizens complained.
Wilson did not know how long the bar had been in operation, but said it was probably “a good while.”
“Citizen complaints drive the train,” Wilson said. “There was a good number of patrons at this makeshift bar and it was an irritant to the community.”
Sunday evening’s raid of the residence resulted in the seizure of more than 200 cans of beer, eight bottles of liquor and an undisclosed amount of cash, Wilson said.
“It’s a different situation,” Wilson said. “We don’t see that everyday.”
Wilson said agents from the Alabama Beverage Control Board also assisted in the investigation.
“I commend and thank the Alabama ABC agents and our Coosa County deputies,” Wilson said. “They made this undercover operation a success. We’re working throughout our county to eradicate this sort of illegal activity.

Goodwater has been plague with this problem for over two decades. This is no secret too Goodwater City Officials, County Law Enforcement, ABC Board, State and County Elected Officials they chose to turn deaf ears and blind eyes to the corruption. The shameful thing about this the Mayor Family's (sister) is the criminal that committed this crime. Goodwater has become the City of Crimes; murder, assaults, robbery, home invasion, etc. When will the citizens of Goodwater say no more, their rights and homes are being violated everyday.
I suggest that the people of Goodwater show their outrage by attending the hearing of Dewey Simmons and wife, Sandra Caldwell Simmons. Also, show your outrage for the slow action of the Law Enforcement of Goodwater, Rockford, ABC Board and Alabama Elected Officials by attending the hearing

Relieve the police of having to worry who might be having a drink, or even smoking a joint and maybe you'll have some luck with the real crimes (murder, assaults, robbery, home invasion) that you mention.
