Two men were arrested on drug charges Thursday night when law enforcement officials were executing an arrest warrant to one of the men at his house on Tankersly Road.

The Tallapoosa County Narcotics Task Force with assistance from the Alexander City Criminal Interdiction Task Force visited Frederick Earl Jones, 44, in his home on Tankersly Road to serve failure to appear warrants stemming from traffic violations.

During the arrest, officials observed items used to manufacture methamphetamine, and a search warrant was issued for the location.

In a car shop next to the house, officials recovered a “shake and bake” methamphetamine lab and the chemical mixtures for the production of methamphetamine, according to a statement released by the Narcotics Task Force. They also recovered tubing, red devil lye, cold pills, ammonia nitrate, salts, drain cleaner, hot plates, aluminum foil, camping fuel, marijuana, pipes used for smoking marijuana and a handgun.

“Shake and bake” or “one pot” labs are smaller methamphetamine labs that are usually used for personal use, Narcotics Task Force coordinator Jay Turner.

“These labs are what everyone is going to because it’s easy to do,” Turner said. “Usually it’s going to be for personal use. They’ll just make what they’re going to use.”

Frederick Jones was arrested on the outstanding warrants and was charged with unlawful manufacturing of a controlled substance, a felony, and possession of drug paraphernalia.

“He was arrested on warrants through Alex City,” Turner said. “We’ll obtain warrants on him on the meth lab and get him in the county jail first of the week.”

Law enforcement officials also arrested Randy Buck Jones, 26 and a relative of Frederick Jones, for possession of marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia, both misdemeanors.
