Alcohol’s negatives outweigh positives

Published Wednesday, December 9, 2009

Dear Editor,

This is in response to the editorial about the Sunday sell of alcoholic beverages in Alex City. I agree with Dr. Hallmark’s reply. I would like to add a point or two to the poll you took. The people were for the suggestion, but I wonder if they are Christian or claim to be. I wonder if they pay income taxes or have health insurance because over half the people in Alex City don’t pay taxes and some who want alcohol on Sundays don’t have health insurance. The negative side is it will cost more to take care of the negatives.

Another point, the same argument was made when the county was voted wet. Where is the result from that. I guess what I am trying to say is wow to my people when they call evil good and good evil. And Paul’s admonishment don’t do evil that good may abound. My sentiments are the same about gambling or electric Bingo.

One more point in America we have become so tolerant and politically correct that we have taken Christ out of Christmas. For what, greed?

I.J. Mobley

The bible has no comment either way on Sunday sales.I would like for those 50% of AC residents who don't pay taxes to tell me how to do it, even if all your food is paid for with food stamps, they'll get you on the toilet paper!
I suppose you think that all those w/o health insurance can afford it but don't choose it because they like dying?
Lastly, if you really buy you own argument, you must vote yes when marijuana comes to a vote.

Mr. Mobley,I have known and respected you all my life but on this issue I don't agree with you. How do you know that half the people don't pay income taxes? Even when I was drawing unemployment I had to pay income taxes. I also paid $360 a month for Insurance plus auto and homeowners insurance. Unless you have something to back up your claims I challenge the validity of them.
This issue should be put to a vote and not decided by anyone but the people of Alex City. I don't even drink but what is the difference on selling alcoholic beverages on Sunday and selling it any other day of the week? As far as being a Christian if you moral values tell you not to buy beer on Sunday then don't.I say put it on the ballot and let's vote on it.
