One man is dead and another one is in jail following an early morning shooting in Alexander City.
The victim, Brian Vines of Alexander City, was shot in the back inside a home on 700 block of Thomas Road about 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Alexander City Police Chief Charles Rafford.
When Alexander City Police arrived at the scene minutes later, the suspect, 32-year-old Carlo Owens of Goodwater, had fled. Officers with the Goodwater Police Department captured him about shortly before 10 a.m.
“We received excellent cooperation from Goodwater police and they were instrumental in helping us take (the suspect) in to custody,” Rafford said.
Police said Owens, who remains in police custody, will be charged with murder.
Detectives continue working to investigate the details of the case, but Rafford said the incident might have been fueled by a domestic problem.
“It looks like this is going to be a domestic-related incident of some kind,” Rafford said.
The incident marks the second homicide of the year in Alexander City. In March, five suspects were arrested one day after Alexander City native Derrick Reynolds was found lifeless in a vacant apartment on K Street.
“My detectives responded immediately and did a good job as did the patrol division,” Raffford said. “I’m very pleased with the professionalism they displayed.”
