Funeral service for Mrs. Mary Jo Lumpkin, 62, of Alexander City, will be Saturday, August 16, 2014 at 2:00 pm at Faith Temple. Rev. Dick Stark and Dr. Todd Henderson will officiate. She will lie instate at the Church for one hour prior to the services. Burial will follow in the Corinth Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday, August 15, 2014 from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Radney Funeral Home.
Mrs. Lumpkin passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 surrounded by her loved ones. She was born on October 7, 1951 in Alexander City, Alabama to James Bowen and Mary Ruth Walker Bowen. Mrs. Lumpkin was an active member of Faith Temple. She was a wonderful mom and loving grandmother. Mrs. Lumpkin loved spending time with her grandchildren and watching them play ball. She worked for the Department of Veteran’s Affairs in Alexander City and Dadeville for over 25 years, and cared dearly for her veteran’s and their widows. Mrs. Lumpkin’s favorite pastimes were camping and boating.
She is survived by her husband of 44 years, Charles Winburn Lumpkin of Alexander City; daughters, Buffy Windsor (Wayne), of Rockford; sons, Hugh Lumpkin (Tammy), of Alexander City and Jody Lumpkin (Kristi), of Chelsea; sisters, Ila Ruth Beasley and Margaret Simpson (Carl), both of Jacksonville, FL; brothers, Bobby Bowen (JoAnn), of Alexander City, Jerry Bowen (Martha), of Jackson’s Gap, and Terry Bowen (Gail), of Ashland; grandchildren, Blair Windsor, Will Windsor, Huell Lumpkin, Katie Windsor, Ethan Lumpkin, Chance Lumpkin, Logan Lumpkin, Charlie Lumpkin; uncle, Lester Walker of Cragford, and brother-in-law, George Lumpkin.
She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Barry Bowen.
The family will accept flowers. Any donations to assist with hospital expenses will be appreciated.
