Alexander City Gymnastics opens 2014 season with second annual Mock MeetPublished 9:38am Tuesday, August 12, 2014
Alexander City Gymnastics kicked off its 2014 competitive season with its second Annual Mock Meet.
The event took place at the gymnastics center with a 1940s theme.
According to coach David Coleman, with the center’s origins dating back to that time period, the decision for said theme was an easy one.
“As our gym was originally a movie theater built in the 1940s, I thought it was appropriate to celebrate its history with an appropriate theme,” he said.
Typically, a mock meet is designed to help future competitors get a feel for competitive settings without the presence of nerves.
“There are mock judges, but no scores, just lots of cheering and happy faces,” Coleman said. “Many of our gymnasts are first-time competitors, and it is important to me that they look and feel confident.”
