It’s a familiar time of year for some Lake Martin frequenters, as the 2014 Lake Martin Slalom Championships are on the horizon.
The two-day event begins with an all-day slalom clinic today at Kowaliga Marina.
The action kicks off at 8 a.m., with Team USA coach Bob Schouten overseeing the clinics.
He will be joined by local top skiers and state champions such as Jay Estes, Payton Phillips and Don Kelly.
On Saturday, the  Lake Martin Slalom Championships will be decided, with an early start at 8 a.m.
The tournament is ability-based.
There will be five divisions: novice-level juniors ages 13 and younger, expert-level juniors ages 13 and younger, open male, open female and first timers.
Among other prizes, the division winners receive an automatic berth into the Alabama State Championships.
Entry into the tournament and clinic – provided spots are still available – are $45 each or $70 for entry into both events.
