ACPR set for 16-team state tournamentPublished 9:27am Thursday, June 26, 2014
Alexander City’s population is about to grow for a few days.
Sixteen teams will descend on the Charles E. Bailey Sportplex as the Alexander City Parks and Recreation department will host a state T-ball tournament from Friday-Tuesday.
Parks and Recreation Executive Director Sonny Wilson said the tournament should bring a strong economic impact, in addition to a good stage upon which teams from all over the state of Alabama can show their skill.
“They’ll be coming anywhere from Mobile to Huntsville,” Wilson said. “This helps to fill our hotels, and most of them are already booked up, so some teams will have to stay outside of our city. With all of them staying from Friday-Tuesday, that means more people will be eating in our restaurants, too.”
All of the action kicks off at 6 p.m. on Friday, when opening ceremonies will be held.
From there, games will be played starting on Saturday, June 28 at 9 a.m. Play will continue through 7:30 p.m.
On the following Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, play begins at 10 a.m., and the teams will play until dark.
Before that, Parks and Rec will host a girls 10u and 12u sub-state tournament.
Teams from Alexander City, Sylacauga and Wedowee will participate
Games for that event begin Thursday at 5:30 p.m and 7:30 p.m.
On Friday, the action wraps up with games at 4 p.m., 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Admission to the T-ball tournament is free for anyone who wishes to attend.
