Divine Praise Dancers to host dance workshop

Published 9:02pm Tuesday, May 27, 2014

The Divine Praise Dance Ministry of Crosskey Missionary Baptist Church will host a praise dance workshop May 31. The workshop will be at Cooper Recreational Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

“We want to go over the purpose of dancing,” said Sherry Jennings, choreographer for Divine Praise Dance Ministry. “I love to dance, and I’ve been dancing since I was little, but after I got older I stopped dancing for the world and started dancing for God.”

The formal title of the workshop is “Make Me Over in the Spirit of Excellence.” This is their first workshop.

“Any time you do anything for God, we want you to do it your best,” Jennings said. “We try to reach that through dance.”

The praise dance workshop will offer information on how to dance, self-expression through movements and different types of praise dance etiquette. Etiquette training will include suggestions on props, spiritual warfare dance, praise dance, costumes and symbols used in praise dance routines.

The workshop is open for anyone interested in praise dancing, including existing teams.

Guest speakers are Donna Chapman, choreographer for Pleasant Home Baptist Church in Goodwater, Ala., and Shannon Darby, dance instructor at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church.

Registration for children five and under is $5 and $10 for ages six and up. The workshop includes, refreshments, lunch and conference materials.
