Lady Trojans’ season ends vs. Shelton St.

Published 10:40am Thursday, May 8, 2014

The Central Alabama Lady Trojans’ 2014 campaign has come to an end thanks to tough losses at the hands of Wallace State-Hanceville and Shelton State during the Alabama Community College Conference softball tournament last weekend.
The Lady Trojans took down Calhoun Community College 4-3 to open tournament play, as Whitney Woodard powered CACC at the plate with two RBIs
Brianna Buie and Chelsea Messer each had one RBI, and Taylor Clinkenbeard scored two runs and stole four bases. Tiffany Guin picked up her 16th win of the year.
However, the Lady Trojans weren’t able to sustain a roll. A early 5-1 deficit to Wallace State-Hanceville was too much to overcome for CACC, as they ultimately lost 9-3.
Haley Rainwater accounted for the team’s lone RBI – two of CACC’s three runs were unearned – and Emily Miller went 2-for-4 with a triple and a run scored.
Woodard and Buie each scored one run in the loss.
The Lady Trojans were eliminated from tournament play by Shelton State, losing 8-4 after the Lady Buccaneers blew a 3-3 game open in the bottom of the sixth inning.
After the Lady Trojans claimed a 4-3 lead in the top of the frams, the Lady Bucs tagged Central Alabama’s Callie Reed for five runs in the inning, which was enough to send CACC home.
The Lady Trojans offense was snuffed out by the Lady Bucs, as they could only muster two hits.
Clinkenbeard swiped two bases, scored a run and accounted for one RBI.
Buie, Messer and Breanna Garrett both scored runs for the Lady Trojans, whose season ends at 40-18.
