Lady Wildcats on to sub-state playoff round

Published 10:46am Monday, May 5, 2014

The Benjamin Russell Lady Wildcats continued their strong season, as a second-place finish in sectionals earned the team a trip to the sub-state playoff round in Montgomery. The Lady ‘Cats golf team, consisting of Hayden Scales, Mckenzie Chapman, Hannah Sharpe, Anne Marie Wendling, and Emily Kerley, didn’t make it easy for themselves, though.
“They’re doing really good,” said BRHS golf coach Wes Tate. “We started a little shaky early on, but we were able to come on really strong at the end.”
After a good showing at sectionals, the Lady ‘Cats will attempt to continue their run when they tee off at Lagoon Park on Monday.
Tate said the biggest reason he has seen for their play this season is fearlessness and composure.
“The maturity for last season has grown,” he said. “They’re a lot more mature on the course, and they aren’t intimidated. They go out, and they expect to do well. Coach (Mandi) Durr has done a great job in getting that into their heads. If they play like they did at sectionals, they’ve got a good shot to go on to state.”
The Outlook will have Benjamin Russell’s results from sub-state as soon as they are made available.
