Boys track team wins sectionals

The Dadeville Tigers track and field team is on a roll as it heads toward the Alabama High School Athletic Association state championships.
Dadeville’s athletes had 27 top-5 finishes during the Class 4A-Section 2 meets at Beauregard last weekend. The performance resulted in a team title for the boys and a fourth-place finish for the girls.
The boys team was able to hold off Tallassee 200.5-181 to claim the sectional crown.
Senior Zack Johnson pulled off his second win trifecta in as many meets, winning the 800-, 1600- and 3200-meter events.
Fellow distance runner Coner Reed was second in  the 800 and 1600 and claimed third in the 3200.
Tra Glenn won the long jump and triple jump events and also took the top slot in the 300-meter hurdles. Bobby Ponds, who won the 110-meter hurdles, was second in the 300-meter hurdles and was fourth in the triple jump.
Glenn also finished third in the high jump.
D.J. Morgan finished runner-up in the discus, and Sedrick Harkins claimed third in the javelin and shotput events.
Lajavis Hughley was fifth in the discus.
In the 400-meter event Devin Johnson (third) and Tyreke Stone (fifth) each earned top-5 placings.
The Tigers 4×400-meter and 4×800-meter relay teams won their respective events, and the 4×100-meter team was third.
For the Lady Tigers, Shamya Black was a top performer, winning the 3200-meter run and taking second in the 1600-meter run.
Zikeria Norris finished second in the 300-meter hurdles and the 400-meter run.
Norris also claimed third place in the 800-meter run. Black crossed the finish line in fifth place during the same event.
