Jim Berry Black of Dadeville, AL died April 20, 2014 at the age of 95. He was born on April 16, 1919 and was a lifelong resident of Dadeville, AL.
Mr. Black was preceded in death by his wife, Jane Owen Black after 57 years of a wonderful marriage; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Black; and six sisters and four brothers. He is survived by his daughter, Peggy Black Hethcox and sons, Jim B. Black, Jr. (Kathy) and Bill Black (Denise). He is also survived by grandchildren, Scott Hethcox, Shea Hethcox, Cheryl Black, Daniel Black, Josh Black, Meredith Black, Leigh Ellen Black, Anna Claire Black; great-grandchildren, Jackson Hethcox, Marley Hethcox, Jack Colton Hethcox; one sister-in-law, Lucille Black; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Black served in the United States Army during World War II as a Technical Sergeant in the Signal Corp and received Letters of Commendation from General Dwight D. Eisenhower and President Harry S. Truman and was honorably discharged.
He went to work for the Bank of Dadeville in 1954 and during his tenure served as Chairman of the Board of Directors, President and CEO, and retired after 54 years in 2007. Mr. Black was a graduate of the Louisiana State University School of Banking. He was a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Dadeville where he served as a Deacon, Chairman of the Finance Committee, and Superintendent of the Sunday School Department. Mr. Black served as President of the Lions Club, Captain of the Dadeville High School Quarterback Club, member of the American Legion, United Appeal Board, and held several other civic positions.
Mr. Black always wanted the people of Dadeville to know how much he loved them and loved serving them. He was the ultimate “community relationship” banker.

Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 23, 2014 at 2:00 pm at First Baptist Church of Dadeville. Rev. Steve Franklin will officiate. Burial will follow in the Dadeville City Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 23, 2014 from 12:00 pm to 1:30 pm at First Baptist Church of Dadeville.
