Fuller signs with Lees-McRae

One of Benjamin Russell’s top athletes is heading to the next level.
Track and field standout Cameron Fuller signed a scholarship with Lees-McRae College (N.C.) this past Friday.
Known for his exploits in the triple jump, Fuller has been one of the most consistent performers for the Wildcats track team, and was selected to the Junior Olympics this past  summer.
The senior considers it one of the most meaningful accomplishments in the athletic realm.
“It means a lot to me. I didn’t start running track until the tenth grade, and I didn’t get into the triple jump until then,” Fuller said. “I didn’t think it would be what I ended up going to college for. I’m truly blessed, and it’s a blessing to have the support I have from my family and friends.”
Fuller said the interest from colleges came during his junior year, and that the chance to attend college was one he always intended to take advantage of.
“I knew I wanted to sign a scholarship one day,” he said. “I knew this is what I wanted to do. It’s crazy, though. I didn’t think it was going to be like this.”
Fuller is expected to remain a primary triple jump competitor, but added he will also compete in sprinting events for Lees-McRae.
