Wildcats downed by Prattville Lions, 3-2

Published 9:58am Thursday, April 17, 2014

Thanks to Prattville, the Benjamin Russell Wildcats found out a lot about the things they can fine-tune heading into the playoffs.
The Wildcats lost a 3-2 match on the pitch against the Lions this past Tuesday.
Prattville struck first at the 12th minute of play, but Phillip Speake tied things up at the 14th minute. Cole Grogan gave the ‘Cats the lead just 16 seconds into the second half with a goal, but Prattville scored twice in the half to claim the win.
“We learned a lot about ourselves,” BRHS boys soccer coach Austin Teel said. “We know we need to be more physical, and from that standpoint we got outplayed. We couldn’t possess the ball and overall, the effort just wasn’t there.”
The setback may come at an opportune time for the Wildcats, as they are poised to host a playoff game in round one and had some areas  of their game exposed in the loss.
“It was a wake up call for us,” Teel said. “Prattville always fields a strong team, but I’ve seen us play better and I know we can be better. We have to learn from our mistake and our loss. We have some things to work on like our defending, our ability to possess the ball and finding the feet of our players with passes.”
