Tigers nab 14 top-5 finishes

The Dadeville Tigers track team had a weekend to build on, claiming numerous top-5 placings at the Beauregard Speed Meet.
The team followed that with three more top-10 finishes at the Spain Park meet, and defending Class 1A-4A triple jump state champion Tra Glenn cemented his status with a win in said event during Mobile’s Challenge of Champions.
At Beauregard, DHS distance runner Zack Johnson set a school record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:04.60, as he claimed first place in the event. Teammate Coner Reed was second.
Johnson finished runner-up in the 3200-meter run with a time of 11:09.66 and was seventh in the triple jump. Fellow distance runner Chase Farr was fourth in the 1600-meter run with a time of 5:09.02. The Tigers also won the boys 4×400-meter relays and the 4×800-meter relays.
D.J. Morgan won the discus throw event and finished eighth in the shotput. DHS’ Sedrick Harkins was second in the shotput.
Glenn was third in the high jump, and Bobby Ponds was second in the long jump and the 110-meter hurdles. He set school records in the 110-meter hurdles and the 300-meter hurdles.
For the Lady Tigers, Zikeria Norris won the 300-meter hurdles. Shamya Black was second in the 1600-meter run. Juzlyn Jones claimed fifth place in the 800-meter run, and teammate Jaylin Edwards was seventh. At Spain Park, Ponds was sixth in the 300-meter hurdles and eighth in the 110-meter hurdles. Norris took fifth place in the girls’ 300-meter hurdles.
