Kelley to be placed on probation, ordered to pay restitution

Another individual indicted on animal cruelty charges in connection with a New Site dog-fighting ring pleaded guilty Friday.

Jennifer Kelley plead guilty to four counts of aggravated animal cruelty. She is the second of six that were indicted to enter a plea.

Kelley was sentenced to three years on each count for a total of 12 years.

Judge Tom Young presided over the proceedings.

In a deal, Young split Kelley’s sentence. Kelley will have to serve five months in addition to the five months she has already served.

After that, Kelley will be released with time served and put on three years probation. If the probation is violated, she will serve the rest of that 12 years.

In addition, Kelley will have to pay restitution for the dogs taken into custody by authorities.

“That’s the fees that were incurred to house, feed and medicate the animals after we had them taken into our custody,” said New Site Police Chief John
