Boys and Girls Clubs of America went for a Guinness world record Friday morning, and the Lake Martin Area Club was part of the action.

The world record that they are attempting to achieve is the most people exercising to a fitness video within 24 hours.

So, for five to ten minutes a piece, clubs across the country filmed themselves exercising to fitness videos.

The event started at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday night and ended at the same time on Friday.

It was held in conjunction with National Boys and Girls Club Week.

The BGCA hopes that by reaching for the world record, more focus will be given to their efforts to improve the overall fitness of young people.

While the BGCA of the Lake Martin Area only had 13 children make it through stormy weather to attend the event, unit director Pepper Bailey believes the event was a success.

“It really was great,” Bailey said. “I really enjoyed it and I think the kids did, too.”

The event was part of the BGCA’s program called “Wanna Play.”

The program features multiple “innings” where youngsters focus on things such as agility, balance and more.

The BGCA will find out in a few months if its efforts really did amount to a new world record.
