Teacher charged with having sex with student

A Goodwater man has been charged with being engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19 while being a school employee, a Class B felony.

Jimmy Reed Nickolson, III, age 38, was arrested March 11 and processed at the Coosa County Jail. Nickolson was released on a $50,000 bond.

An investigation began after Coosa County School authorities reported an alleged incident involving inappropriate behavior between a teacher and a student.

According to a press release from the Coosa County Sheriff’s Office, the department launched an in-depth investigation with the assistance of the Alabama Bureau of Investigations due to the seriousness of the allegation.

“This is a crime of a very serious nature and is still an ongoing investigation,” Wilson said.

No further comments are being released at this time.

Nickolson is listed as an auto tech teacher on the website for the Coosa County Science and Technology Center.
