All-Outlook girls hoops team: 2013

Published 2:31pm Monday, March 10, 2014

Several teams took a step forward in 2013 thanks to top-tier play by some of the best female hoopsters in the area.
The big three of Jernika Russell, Cookie Kelley and Aaliyah Lawson powered Benjamin Russell to a 15-9 record under the direction of first-year girls basketball coach Alexis Hines.
Last year’s Cinderella, the Dadeville Lady Tigers, took a step back but remained competitive as they posted a winning record and got to the sub-regional round thanks to the steadying hand of Janiesha Moss and the sharp shooting of three-point specialist Laquashous Stowes.
Out in Rockford, a youth movement was in full effect as fabulous freshmen Malia Kelly and Shania Tuck led the way for a much improved Lady Cougars squad.
With Kelly and Tuck having three more seasons in blue and white, Central-Coosa’s girls basketball program may be one to watch in the coming seasons.
Central-Coosa wasn’t the only team with fresh faces exploding onto the scene, as freshman Zakkia Lyons immediately asserted herself as a top scoring option for the Lady Generals. HBHS also had junior Amber Hardnett steering the way toward a sub-regional berth.
In terms of wins and losses, the Reeltown Lady Rebels didn’t have much to be excited about, but the play of Jalisa Heard never wavered in spite of the team’s struggles.
Posted to the left is the 2013 All-Outlook girls basketball team.
The Outlook proudly recognizes each selection for their play in the 2013-14 season and their respective teams’ success.
